Coal as a Commodity
Through partnership with local coal mining industries, we aim to be one of the major suppliers of coal both locally and internationally. The majority of the supply will be concentrated in the local market. We aim to supply to both private and public sectors where the bulk of the supply will be concentrated towards the public sector as one of our clients. The industry is highly concentrated, with a handful of companies producing about 80% of the saleable coal production, coal's role as a fossil fuel is likely to become increasingly important in a world in which concerns over energy security are rising and demand for energy is growing strongly
Coal Beneficiation
ROWACOP provides a complete Coal processing service from sizing and handling to the washing of the run-of-mine coal. This entails the process of removal of the contaminants and the lower grade coal to achieve a product quality which is suitable to the application of the ultimate end user. We have successfully established a syndicate of companies that offers a comprehensive solution to our customer base. Adapting a farsighted approach, we have progressively linked a number of service providers under ROWACOP, thus combining the most essential ingredients required to provide our customers a best-of-both-worlds solution in coal beneficiation.
Our attitude towards ownership of assets allows our model to take an objective stance towards every new contract added to our array of operations. Our approach removes the all-eggs-in-one-basket fret, which leaves many businesses stranded during times of industrial unrest or periods of economic recession
Three kinds of processes may be performed at the plants:
(1) Sizing, controlled by a crushing and screening process,
(2) Increasing heating value, by removing non-combustible ash and rock through gravity
separation,
(3) Removing or controlling undesirable mineral and chemical components (sulphur,
sodium, and trace elements) by a combination of gravity separation and blending.
The main challenge to the ongoing use of coal as an energy source is environmental concerns. About 51% of South African coal mining in carried out underground, with the balance produced by open cast methods. ROWACOP and its partners will not consciously use chemical materials that might harm soil and drinking water or could pose as health hazard for the local population. . All this will be achieved whilst ensuring that environmental protection is part of the process by ensuring compliance to the legislative requirements to safeguard the natural habitat. Success cannot only be measured by financial results but also whether we have a standard of care that exceeds society's expectations and requirements.
